Quan Long Wanton Noodle @ Marsiling Mall Hawker Centre

singapore,wanton mee,food review,全隆雲吞麵,quan long wanton noodle,marsiling mall hawker centre,4 woodlands street 12,food centre,云吞面,馄饨面,雲吞麵,

Within the past two weeks, I have been to Marsiling Mall Hawker Centre three times for this Quan Long Wanton Noodle however, I have no luck with it as the stall is close each time I am there.

I wanted to try this stall so much because of its glowing reviews. According to Google, they open everyday so it seems like they might have closed for good?

On the fourth visit, I still harbor a glimmer of hope that the stall is still in business but I am also mentally prepared to try something else just like the previous three visits.

Imagine my joy when I saw the shutter up with a line in front of the stall. I joined the queue eagerly.

Chin Seng Cooked Food - Chicken Chop Noodle @ Tekka Market & Food Centre

Chin Seng Cooked Food at Tekka Market & Food Centre is a noodle stall that specializes in wanton and dumplings. You can have them deep fried or boiled, with or without noodle, dry or in soup. However, I am there for something else - the chicken chop noodle ($4/$4.50).

No one was in the stall when I arrived but I soon realized the stall owner is chatting with a customer at the table in front. After placing my order with her, she returned to the stall and put the chicken in the deep fryer.

The frying took some time and she explained that she will prepare the noodle only after the chicken is done or else, it will be all dried up.

What she said makes sense to me and I am impressed by her thoughtfulness.

Taste The Kwang's Black - Charcoal Roasted Black Char Siew Wanton Noodle @ Clementi 448 Market & Food Centre

If you think that the Chinese characters 碳烤黑叉燒 on the signboard is the stall's name, then you are very much mistaken.

This stall have several outlets located around Singapore such as at Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Bukit Merah, Clementi, Kovan, New Upper Changi, Tanglin Halt, Upper Bukit Timah and Yishun.

When I first come across the outlet at Clementi 448 Market & Food Centre, I tried looking them up on the internet with this name but did not managed to find anything at all.

The real stall name - 老廣黑味道 (Taste The Kwang's Black) - is found on the side menu panel instead. As the name is not in a prominent location nor particularly eye catching, it is easy to overlook. It actually took me a few days to discover the name from the photo I took.

As my sole purpose for coming to this stall is to try their charcoal roasted char siewI decided to have their char siew wanton noodle ($4).

Update: Koung's Wanton Mee has permanently closed.

Great news for fans of Koung's Wanton Mee especially if you reside in the West like me. The popular wanton mee from the East has set up an outlet here at JEM, right beside Jurong East MRT Station.

I had wanted to try their wanton mee at Sims Ave for the longest time but have procrastinated for just as long due to their location.

Now that they have opened a more accessible outlet near me, I can finally tick it off my bucket list.

It is quite obvious what Swee Kee Wanton Noodle.Laksa at ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre sells. Apart from the obvious, wanton soup, shredded chicken with mushroom noodle and chicken feet with mushroom noodle are also on the menu.

I decided to order the wanton noodle ($3) and added on two braised chicken feet (80¢ each) with the amiable auntie inside the stall.

It did not take long for my order to be ready as I came just before the lunch hour crowd descend upon the food centre. I helped myself to the sambal chili and pickled green chili that are placed right in front on the counter. I also added a dollop of ketchup as well.

No-Name Wanton Mee With Hor Bao Daan @ Blk 125 Bukit Merah Lane 1

richard low wonton mee,singapore,wanton mee,云吞面,food review,review,雲吞麵,wanton noodle,food,blk 125 bukit merah lane 1,

A certain no-name wanton noodle stall has recently been making its rounds on several Facebook groups. What caught my attention was the hor bao daan (fried egg) on the plate alongside the wanton noodle.

I thought the combination was quite interesting. After some background checks, I found out the noodle stall is located inside a coffee shop called Hong Kong Street Chun Kee at Jalan Bukit Merah.

Upon checking google map, I realized that I have passed by the coffee shop several times before though it has never occurred to me to try the food there as the place was pretty quiet.

For the full story behind this wanton noodle stall, do check out Johor Kaki's blog.

Ying Ji Wanton Noodle @ Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre

While queuing for my curry mutton noodle from Ying Ji Wanton Noodle at Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre, I noticed the customer before me ordering their wanton noodle.

I was stunned by the sheer amount of char siew in his bowl therefore I made a mental note to come back for it.

On the day of my visit, I went up to the stall and straightaway ordered a $4 bowl of wanton noodle with the auntie. For some reason, I thought the wanton noodle come in $3 and $4. I only looked up at the signboard after ordering and realized that the dish come in $3 and $3.50 instead.

I knew I was going to have trouble finishing the noodle. With bated breath, I stood there watching the auntie putting the bowl together. True enough, when the finished product was placed on the counter, I gasp.

The enormous bowl of wanton noodle come with a big bowl of soup on the side.

Ying Ji Wanton Noodle - Curry Mutton Noodle @ Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre

Despite her name, Ying Ji Wanton Noodle located on the third floor of Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre has a lot more to offer other than wanton noodle.

Also on the menu are fried wanton noodle, chicken feet noodle, mushroom shredded chicken noodle, curry chicken noodle and the focus of this review - curry mutton noodle.

I think it is rather unusual to find curry mutton noodle at a wanton noodle stall therefore, I decided to order a regular plate ($4/$5) to try.

From far, you would have thought that this stall at Yishun Park Hawker Centre sells ban mian as the words 手工面 (handmade noodle) took centrestage on the signboard in a very large font size.

However, as soon as you come nearer, you will realize that the stall's real name is the one on the left-hand side in a smaller font that reads 一口麵 (One Mouth Noodle).

But, the biggest surprise is, the stall does not sell ban mian at all. Instead, they sell Hong Kong-styled wanton noodle.

And the best part? The stall owner actually makes his own egg noodle, a skill which he picked up from his father and that is what the "手工面" on the signboard refers to.

Yap Kee Wanton Noodle @ Holland Drive Market & Food Centre

Yap Kee Wanton Noodle at Holland Drive Market & Food Centre is managed by the Koo family - a husband and wife team hailing from Batu Pahat in Johor, Malaysia.

According to Tony, you might be interested to know that Uncle Koo's brother is the man behind the famous "flying wanton noodle" at Permas Jaya. Unsurprisingly, the brother uses the same noodle supplier and yes, his stall is called "Yap Kee" as well.

I wonder why are they not called Koo Kee since they are, you know, the Koos?

Anyway, Auntie Koo was there alone in the stall on the day of my visit. She was all smiles and I ordered the large serving of the wanton noodle ($3.50/$4.50).

Hao Hao Noodle House is another popular noodle stall at Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre.

The stall sells a variety of noodles like wanton noodle, sui kow noodle, Ipoh hor fun, mushroom & chicken feet noodle, and laksa.

Being a fan of wanton noodle ($3), I have to order a plate of my favorite noodle. It is self-service here so you order, make your payment and wait to collect your food.

I was watching the chef blanch my noodles when he suddenly toss them high into the air and catching it deftly in his ladle with precision. That was totally unanticipated! I thought such flying acts could only be found in Malaysia.

By the time I am done with my fried Hokkien mee at Geylang East Market & Food Centre, the rain has eased a little but still showed no signs of stopping anytime soon. Now, what do you do when you are stuck at the food centre? Well, you eat some more!

According to my compiled list of the must-eats here, the wanton noodle from Guan Kee Wanton Noodle is another popular choice with the foodies. Being an ardent fan of wanton noodle, I had to order a plate ($3) to try.

Update: Tian Xiang Wanton Noodle has relocated. The new address has been updated at the bottom of this post.

Apart from the drinks stalls at Tanglin Halt Food Centre, Tian Xiang Wanton Noodle is one of the earliest stalls to open for business every morning.

I have read numerous good reviews about their wanton noodle so I decided to give them a try. I arrived just slightly after 7am - their stipulated opening hour and there is just one customer before me.

The stall offers both wanton and sui kow noodle at the same price of $3 and $3.50.

Fans of Eng's wantan noodle rejoice!

The famous green bowl wantan noodle has opened an outlet here in the West at Westgate! Apart from their main outlet at 287 Tanjong Katong Road, this is their third shopping mall outlet right after Eastpoint Mall and Ang Mo Kio Hub.

This is certainly good news to me as I already had plans to check them out but have been contemplating due to the inconvenient location. Instead of me going to them, they have now come to me! Saved me the trouble of traveling all the way to the East!

I visited their Eastpoint Mall outlet the week before but it was full with a long waiting queue outside the premises. As I did not have the patience to wait, I left.

On the other hand, this outlet at Westgate have hardly any customers when I visited on a Saturday morning. This latest outlet is only a week old and probably have not drummed up enough publicity with the residents here yet.

Kiat Huat Wanton Noodle @ Haig Road Market & Food Centre

Other than Zhenguang Wantan Noodles, Kiat Huat Wanton Noodle is another stall offering the same noodle dish under the same roof at Haig Road Market & Food Centre.

However, I noticed that Kiat Huat is the one with a perpetual queue whenever I visit the food centre.

I decided to try them out to see if they are better than Zhenguang Wantan Noodles since they draw a bigger crowd in front of their stall.

I have been to Yuhua Village Market & Food Centre a number of times to do marketing with my Mum and we would usually settle our breakfast at the food centre itself.

One particular roast stall here is famous for their char siew and there is always a perpetual queue for it.

The stall in question is called Fei Fei Roasted Noodle. Being a regular at the food centre here, I have eaten at Fei Fei a couple of times but I wonder why it took me so long to write about them?

The stall is opened at around 9am and during my latest visit, I was there just at that precise moment when they switched on the lights inside the stall indicating that they are opened for business.

I was taken aback when a horde of people around me started swarming towards the front of the stall, all trying to place their orders. I joined the queue as well and I stood in line for about twenty minutes before it reached my turn to order a plate of wanton noodle.

Fatty Cheong Wanton Noodle @ ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre

singapore,abc brickworks market,food review,肥仔详,abc brickworks market & food centre,fatty cheong,roast,6 bukit merah lane 1,wanton noodle,wanton mee,

A week ago, I visited ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre specifically aiming for the wanton noodle from a roast stall called Fatty Cheong because I have heard so much about their bu jian tian char siew which is actually BBQ pork made from the pig's arm pit.

In order to avoid the lunch crowd, I intentionally arrive slightly after 11am - their stipulated opening hour listed on hungrygowhere and burpple.

To my dismay, they seem far from ready for business as the lights are not on and there are no roasts hanging on the racks.

I did not want to waste any time so I went through my food list and decided to go for the next available stall opened at that time which is Wow Wow West.

The plan was to wait for Fatty Cheong to get ready while having my chicken chop but as fate would have it, I am too full from my western food to have anything else.

Furthermore, by the time I finished, it was nearing noon and Fatty Cheong is still not opened yet.

I have to leave in disappointment and plan another trip back soon.

Update: 164 Stirling Road Wanton Noodle has permanently closed.

A while back, I went to a nondescript coffeeshop in Stirling Road for the special "Set A" wanton noodle but due to my oversight while ordering, I had the 'normal' wanton noodle instead.

I returned to Stirling Road again, determined to have the special "Set A" wanton noodle. This time, I pointed to the photo by the side of the stall, making sure that the lady inside saw me doing that.

The normal wanton noodle came with only char siew and boiled wantons but the 'special' had additional braised mushrooms and fried wantons.

Update: 164 Stirling Road Wanton Noodle has permanently closed.

For years, a nameless wanton noodle stall has been dishing out delicious wanton noodle in a dingy-looking coffee shop at Stirling Road - one of Singapore's oldest estate - in Queenstown.

Fronted by an aged signboard with a generic "wanton noodle" written in both English and Chinese, the fading photos on it bear witness to the years they have toiled in the stall, faithfully serving the residents in this neighborhood.

According to my research, the stall used to be called Chun Ji (春记) however, the name is not on the signboard anymore. It is now more commonly known as "164 Stirling Road Wanton Noodle" with reference to its location under block 164.

I came to learn about this noodle stall while reading up on the must-eats at Meiling Market & Food Centre which is only a few minutes walk away. As photos of the wanton noodle looked so enticing, I decided that a visit to the stall is a must.

Update:  Kok Kee Wanton Noodle has rebranded as Wai Kee Wanton Noodle.

I have long heard of the notoriety of Kok Kee Wanton Noodle from the now-defunct Lavender Food Square that overcharges for its small portions however, I have heard even more regarding its grumpy elderly owners who had offended quite a bit of customers (go snoop around the food forums and you'll see what I mean).

Yet, despite the less than favorable reputation, the stall still attract quite a queue daily.

Meanwhile, over at Jurong West 505 Market & Food Centre, there is a wanton noodle stall bearing the same name (also claiming to be from Bugis), charging the same higher-than-usual price, and does not serve green pickled chili just like the one at Lavender.

There were rumors that the young couple running this stall were the nephew and niece of the older couple who had since retired.

I cannot vouch for the authenticity of this information but, I am still very excited to try a plate of this "legendary" wanton noodle that I have heard so much about.
